The Perfect Place to Study and Live Near Rutgers
Late-night study sessions are a whole lot easier when you have the right space. If you’re looking for student apartments near Rutgers University, Verve New Brunswick has you covered. Need a quiet spot to focus? The study and tech lounge comes with a printing station, so you can finish assignments without running to campus. Prefer group study sessions? There are dedicated rooms for that too, making it easy to collaborate with classmates. Whether you're cramming for exams or working on a big project, you’ll always have a space designed for productivity. Plus, with studio to 5-bedroom floorplans, you can choose the setup that works best for you. Living at Verve means having everything you need to succeed, all in one place.
The Transportation System in New Brunswick, New Jersey
Getting around New Brunswick is fairly easy, whether you drive, take the train, or rely on buses. The city has a busy train station with NJ Transit service, making it simple to get to New York City or Philadelphia. Local buses run through different parts of town, connecting neighborhoods to downtown and nearby areas. If you drive, you’ll deal with some traffic, especially during rush hour, but major highways like Route 1 and the New Jersey Turnpike are close by. Parking downtown can be tricky, but there are garages and metered spots if you don’t mind hunting for one. Walking and biking are good options, too, since the city isn’t too spread out. Whether you’re commuting for work or just getting around town, there are plenty of ways to do it.
Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick, NJ
Sometimes, you just need a break from the city, and Rutgers Gardens is perfect for that. It’s a peaceful green space just a short drive from downtown, with walking trails, gardens, and open fields to explore. The place has a little bit of everything—colorful flower displays, a bamboo forest, and even a farmers market in warmer months. If you like photography, this spot is great for capturing nature up close. It’s also a nice place for a walk, whether you’re alone or with friends. You don’t need to be a plant expert to appreciate the beauty here. It’s open year-round, so you can visit in any season and find something different each time. If you’re looking for a quiet escape, this is a solid choice.
New Brunswick Utilizing Space at 6 Kirkpatrick St. for Code Blue Starting Saturday Night
Providing a safe, warm space during freezing nights is a big deal, and expanding Code Blue to a larger location shows the city is taking this seriously. When temperatures drop, having somewhere to go isn’t just about comfort—it’s about survival. Forty spots might not be enough for everyone in need, but it’s a step up from before, and every extra bed matters. Plus, pairing it with the cooling center for Code Red days makes sense, since extreme weather doesn’t just happen in winter. These programs won’t solve homelessness, but they help people get through harsh conditions with dignity. Hopefully, as the city continues investing in these efforts, more permanent solutions—like affordable housing and expanded social services—stay at the center of the conversation. No one should have to wonder where they’ll sleep when it’s freezing outside.

WEEK 8 - ASSIGNMENT!!🤖📝🖊️✨
Time for the assignment update!!! Like I mentioned in my previous post, we had to individually work on generating our own images through AI, finalize the design, compile everyone’s images together, upload it to stable diffusion, run our own prompt and see what happens!🤷♀️
So, I was feeling 🎄Chrismassy🎄 The spirit of Christmas hit me early. (What can I say? I’m a sucker for the most wonderful time of the year❤️✨) I decided to create Santa’s Workshop with the Studio Ghibli art style. (I’m a sucker for Christmas and Studio Ghibli movies so of course I would cook up this ✨Golden Combo✨)
Christmas and Studio Ghibli Films go hand in hand (Fight me) Both are comforting , nostalgic, magical and make me holly jolly. So why not try to combine these 2 and create something right?
Anyways, moving on from my yapping…I started running the prompt for ‘Santa’s workshop in studio Ghibli art style’ and my goodness….it took so much trial and error to get to the image I wanted.
At first I decided to add elves to the workshop thinking they would be cute, but the AI gave me creepy deformed munchkins that will forever LIVE in my NIGHTMARES!💀💀💀 (Like I said…AI’s a work in progress) Moving on from that, I had no choice but to scrap the elves. I figured it would be better just to have a workshop with lots of Christmas decor, presents and warm ✨magic in the air✨
This is the final image I decided to go with for the assignment. Even though from afar it looked pretty good, the closer you looked at the image, the details were not visible. The ‘Warm, cozy background’ prompt I added made the image blurry. But I was able to solve that by doing some edits on Photoshop, upload the image back to Stable Diffusion and then ‘Upscale’ the image.
( I have to admit, it probably took hours for me to get the right image. So much of time, patience and editing goes into this)

After everyone got the images they wanted, our lecturer compiled all of them into one on Photoshop like this.

Now it’s time to show you the final result I got after running my prompt for this image! ✨TaDa✨ (Now ik it isn’t perfect, but the amount of detailing is crazy! It’s quite hard to design something like this in a traditional or even digital art form. The results were interesting)

Now as someone who does traditional and digital artwork, who has now learned what it’s like to be an AI artist…. I want to give my opinion on AI art.
I know it’s quite a struggle to work with AI and running and changing prompts over and over again isn’t easy work. However, I still can’t except AI art as real art. In my eyes I see traditional and digital artwork as ‘real art’ because the artists have to have the artistic skills to draw something. The time dedicated is also valued more. But with AI art, it’s like anyone who hasn’t even dedicated time to learn art can be labeled an artist and that’s unfair in my eyes.
That’s it for week 8! Week 9’s work is coming up soon!

week11
There is one psychological concept we learned together while studying this week's Critical Thinking class: "emotion work." The word, which means "all efforts to manage one's emotions or maintain a relationship," is a way to solve problems when conflicts arise, talking about the ability to psychologically manage one's emotions and conditions without impulsiveness. And I believe that my growth mindset can be carried out through these personal emotional tasks.
The psychological pressure I usually experienced while conducting STUDIO class assignments was quite large. The reason is that I am not as good at scissors as others, so if I had to proceed with cutting the paper or if I had to proceed with the task manually without working digitally, it would take too long compared to others, and I couldn't finish it all at a fixed time, so I had to continue at home or work again from scratch. I think critical classes have helped me a lot in solving the difficulties that come from the pressing emotions I had to deal with at this time.
In addition to the critical thinking we did this week, all of this week's CTS topics provided a good complementary guide to overcoming difficulties in carrying out assignments and participating in classes. But to pick one thing, I'd like to mention Digital Media _documentation of art, which I did in week 9. I usually lacked the habit of collecting and organizing information or data well. So I had a habit of losing data because I couldn't organize it right away. However, through the "Digital Media_documentation of art," I made a good habit of researching, organizing, and filing data that I collected for a task. In particular, when researching artists, it helped me a lot in my growth as a personal designer by collecting, researching, and organizing complex and diverse information at once.

Create a Critical Thinking Skills B manifesto. Question 1
From my understanding of what a manifesto is like making a statement where people or groups shares what they believe in and what they want to accomplish.
For my personal manifesto is who i am and what i aim to accomplish till the day i die.
My personal/design manifesto:
Challenges I faced when creating a personal/designer manifesto:
trying to avoid using cliches as i sometimes tend to overused phrases that are not even meant to be in the manifesto. The solution i made to avoid using cliches is believing in my own values and expressing myself.
getting feedbacks from others has always been a challenged to me as i have to take a deep consideration on their criticism as they have their point of view. The solution i made to solve getting feedbacks from others is trying to be open minded as i feel that their feedbacks can be a learning process for me to improve on myself.
For our group manifesto we decided to do on "Art must have meaning behind it" Matin and I agree that it should have meaning behind it as Bella denies it.
Group Manifesto:
Changes that i will made for our group manifesto is doing "a design without purpose is like a design with just decorations" as i feels like it relates to our course/modules.
i will do a values that design has a purpose for example;
our "Believes"; i believe that design should have a meaningful goal whether communicating through messages, solving problems etc.
The most impactful and particularly week for cts would be about analyzing creative practice (week 9) as i would have to speak about my representative work and design interest to other classmates as we were assigned by a number.
I feel week 9 lecture has impacted me by making me having more confident talking to my classmates, helping me on my communication skills, I also had the chance to learn from my classmates on what they are good at so that in the near future if i ever need help i know who to find.
This manifesto has benefit me in other modules like Studio; For studio we were tasked a group work to create 3 official poster, mockups and a app. I partner up with matin as he is good at creating posters.
In Summary, this manifesto has guided me through collaborative effort with Matin in studio, ensuring purposeful and align design choices in the creation of posters, mockup etc.
As a designer, this manifesto has help and contribute me by defining my values as it has help me grow to be a better designer. It has also help me have a clear guidelines for how I make choices and act in my designs. (Word Count: 459)

Tagged by @marklikely to post the top 9 movies I've seen recently! I actually haven't watched that many movies lately so I'm just posting the nine most recent movies I saw in general, going from worst to best with some commentary/summary
9- 1up. A movie from fucking BUZZFEED STUDIOS about gamer girls. I quit about ten minutes in when they had a "triggered" joke. PAINFUL to watch not even bad in a fun way
8- The Book of Love- a romcom about a man who wrote a boring ass book and his translator that made it a steamy romance novel in spanish. It is neither romantic nor comedic. The main character is so DEEPLY DEEPLY unlikable. It's basically a worse version of another movie on this list (off the menu). Also by buzzfeed studios who let buzzfeed make movies
7. Thor: Love and Thunder- a sequel to Thor Ragnarok that isn't even half as charming imo. No more getting excited for Disney produced movies we have evolved past being excited for Disney movies
6. Harold and the Search For Happiness - a psychiatrist realizes he's too emotionally stunted to help his clients. Goes traveling around the world to find what takes people happy. If was okay but I spent most of it playing Hades on my laptop while it was in the background
5.- Marry Me- a romcom starring Owen Wilson and Jennifer Lopez. She's a pop star who finds out her fiancee is cheating in her on her wedding night, so she married some random guy in the crowd. It's a pretty middle of the road romcom, and the "celebrity who falls for someone who's barely familiar with their work" formula I think is done better in Notting Hill, The Decoy Bride, and Music and Lyrics. Enjoyable enough
4.Off the Menu- another romcom! This one is about a guy who's dad is the president of Fake Taco Bell and he sucks. He gets assigned to go find new recipes for Fake Taco Bell and is sent to New Mexico, where he finds a small restaurant that serves AMAZING food. I can't really accurately rate how good this movie is because I would watch Santino Fontana in ANYTHING. Manages to pull of the unlikable protagonist who grows as a person MUCH better than in book of love. Also I'm a sucker for a fun scheming little kid and this movie has a fun one. It's not the best romcom I've ever seen but it's a worthwhile watch
3. Frequency- oh hey we've made it to the movies I actually think are good! Frequency is about a man who's able to communicate to his late father from 30 years ago through a ham radio. They have to solve a serial killer murder mystery together! VERY TENSE and very good!!! Also, in this movie from 1999, Andre Braugher plays a New York City cop, which is obviously very different from what he's most well known for now- a new York City cop.
2. To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything,Julie Newmar- three NYC drag queens go on a road trip to try and go for a drag competition in Hollywood. They get lost and their car breaks down, getting them stuck in a small deep south town. I know the term iconic queer cinema gets thrown around a lot but like. This really is iconic queer cinema. I like to think that it's in the same universe as The Birdcage, especially bc Robin Williams shows up for a bit part. Absolutely a love letter to drag and camp written by people who obviously had been a part of that community. Fair warning this movie deals with themes of homophobia, transphobia, racism, and sexual and physical abuse, but there's a 100% happy ending, and most of the bad things are simply feared rather than happen. Highly recommend!!! (Also in a similarish vein I'd recommend best little whorehouse in Texas)
And at Number 1:
Everything, everywhere, all at once- my summary and review is just: GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!! FUCK!!!
Tagging uhhh @queenofcryptiids @atomicelixir @friendswithghosts and @harry-trumans-dishwasher

Select Naomi fighting games now available to play online via NullDC!
“Just released a new NullDC Netplay distro! I heavily modified the launcher and simplified the installation process to get folks up and running with online CvS2, MvC2, GGXX, and other NAOMI favorites with minimal effort.” - @blueminder
[download] [more info]
Shoutout @lonelyfrontier for reuploading the DL link (roms included). Can’t wait to see what’s next from this team, more Naomi games for netplay is never a bad thing :) Here’s the README file to make sure you got the right stuff to run it (don’t think it will work on Macs at the moment tho):
“FGC ARCADIA NullDC Netplay Guide An attempted simplification by blueminder (May 7, 2020) Special Thanks: supersonicstep MarioBrotha (nullDCMultiLauncher, nullDCControlSetup) DQRF of GGXXACR Discord RaptorIIRC Teyah Jakstation reaVer PREREQUISITES Be sure the following is installed: 1. DirectX: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 2. Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145 3. .NET Framework 4.8 Runtime: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net48 4. Radmin VPN: https://www.radmin-vpn.com/ NOTE: This netplay method works for any local LAN or virtual LAN setup like Radmin VPN, Hamachi, or ZeroTier. Radmin VPN is the de facto service used on FGC Arcadia. You will either need to create or join a network with others also using NullDC. OFFLINE SETUP 1. Launch "NullDC Launcher.bat" 2. Select any ROM from the drop-down menu, and press the "Play Offline" button This will launch your ROM of choice in NullDC, giving you an opportunity to test your inputs. Most popular pads and fight sticks should be automatically detected. If this works, then you're all set for netplay! If your game pad is not detected, you should be able to solve your problem in one of two ways: 2A. Exit NullDC and run "Assign NullDC Joystick Buttons.bat" This will run MarioBrotha's nullDCControlSetup application, which will prompt you with a detected joystick and ask you to press corresponding arcade buttons. Once the button assignment is complete, it automatically adds a file with your joystick name to NullDC's configuration. From here, you should be able to run the NullDC Launcher again and try out your controller. 2B. If button assignment on your joystick doesn't work with the provided utility, our last resort is using JoyToKey, which comes with this distribution in the "JoyToKey_en" directory. This may be necessary if your joystick is unable to assign buttons on the Z Axis, a known limitation with this build of NullDC. This tends to happen the most with XBOX 360 controllers. You can find NullDC's keyboard controls by reading "nulldc-1-0-4-en-win\qkoJAMMA\Keyboard.qkc" as a text file. These are the default keys for reference: 5=Start 3=Test w=Up s=Down a=Left d=Right 8=Button_1 9=Button_2 0=Button_3 u=Button_4 i=Button_5 o=Button_6 1=Coin Lastly, run "Swap Joystick And Keyboard Controls.bat" to finalize your changes in the NullDC configuration. You can launch NullDC again and see if your preferred input device finally works. NETPLAY SETUP 1. Launch Radmin VPN and create or join a network with others using NullDC. 2. Launch "NullDC Launcher.bat" If you are hosting, be sure to copy your IP from Radmin to the launcher's IP column. Save this as a preset so that the Launcher has your default host details handy. From here, press the "Host Game" button. If you are joining a game, be sure to copy your target's IP from Radmin and paste it in the launcher's IP column. Now press the "Join Game" button. Depending on your distance and ping times, you may have to adjust the "Delay" value. Start at 1, and work your way up. It takes some trial and error, but once you have it, it's smooth sailing from there. After you found the sweet spot, you can change the name of the preset where you would typically find "Default", and save your settings for the next time you want to play against your new Internet fight buddies. If you need to troubleshoot or have any questions, feel free to ask in the FGC ARCADIA Discord.”
*PHW note: everything worked fine for me, I just had to download an even older version of Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio that got it running. Feel free to let me know too if you have any issues.

——————————————————————————————
Summary: When Tup murdered General Tiplar during a battle, Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex dispatched Ahsoka, Fives, and Yara to solve the mystery that was plaguing the Clone Army. Meanwhile, Senator Padme Amidala contacted Commander Fox, Commander Tori, Riyo Chuchi, and Dipper to help her continue investigating the death of Palpatine, suspecting that Dooku was behind the evil plot. But when Dooku send an ISB agent to stop them, the team had to race against time to search for the truth, which could alter the course of the galaxy.
————————————————————————————
Bulldozing through the jungle, an Imperial officer was seated on the transport, recording a list of crates inside the inventory. There were 6 crates of Angel’s Heart that were collected from the mines, and he had to make sure that everything was accounted for. The last thing he wanted was his superior giving him a demerit for his performance at work, or worse.
The Empire isn’t like the Republic. Everything has to be in order, otherwise, he would have to pay the price for his failure. As harsh as they are, the officer thought the Imperial is more organised and fair, unlike the previous administration. Back then, Aaron was stuck as a clerk for 27 years. He hoped that his last boss would notice all the effort he had contributed, but that didn’t happen.
Instead, his deserved position was given to the boss’s son, leaving him disappointed. Most of his friends also had a higher position than him. While they were enjoying life with a higher salary, Aaron had to get by with his husband and two daughters back home. He always dreamed about pampering them with whatever they want, but that only happened once a year.
After this, I’m going to treat them to a steakhouse tonight, he smiled to himself, as he peeked through the Angel’s Heart. And I can finally get the makeup palette Lia has been saving up for months.
The soft pink crystal was shaped exactly like a heart, reminding him of Valentine’s day. It was common for Aaron to see the Angel’s Heart crystal in a fancy jewellery store, but he wasn’t sure why the Empire would want a huge crate of them. To him, they were just there for the pleasure of the eye. There’s no healing properties from the Angel’s Heart at all.
I hope everything goes smoothly this time. The last time I transported these to HQ, we had to deal with raiders.
Unfortunately, that was only a dream. Before Aaron could sit down, the transport braked abruptly, causing him to fall on the metallic floor. “Ouch,” he yelped, as he got up and rubbed the side of his face. “What’s going on up there?”
“Sir, we have a pregnant woman crossing the street,” the B1 battle droid reported to him. “Should we fire, sir?”
Aaron shook his head. “No, don’t open fire. I’ll see what I can do for her.”
As he stepped out of the vehicle, Aaron saw a dark-skinned woman strutting in front of him, cradling her baby bump with one hand and carrying a sack with the other. With a tattered hood, he noticed her feet were adorned with worn-out slippers, prompting him to approach her gently. “Excuse me, but do you need help?”
Odd Eye widened her eyes as she turned towards the Imperial officer, realizing that she was dealing with someone who was flesh and blood. “Thank you for your kindness, but I can handle it myself.”
“I can help you,” he insisted, keeping a safe distance from her. “You’re pregnant and you look like you’re struggling to walk.”
“Are you sure about that, sir?” her voice shook, hiding her hands behind her. “I’m sure you have a lot of things to worry about right now.”
Aaron shook his head as he offered his hand. “Don’t worry about me, miss. I’ll be alright, I promise.”
With a hint of hesitation on her face, Odd Eye took a deep breath and held his hand as they crossed the muddy road together. He was kind, just like Erhan.
She never expected that an officer who worked for their enemy was helping her. She wondered if he was happy with his current job, given that the Imperial didn’t treat anyone with kindness and compassion. Her shoulders slumped as she thought about his fate in Imperial’s grasp.
“Thank you for your help,” said Odd Eye, as they reached the other side of the road. “You’re too kind, sir.”
“No worries miss, I’m glad to help,” Aaron gave her a warm smile. “Though I don’t mean to pry, but are you currently living with your partner?”
She frowned, her head hanging low. “He’s not here anymore.”
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that,” he replied. “I’m sure he was a great man.”
“He was a decent man,” Odd Eye sat down, nestling her bump. “My partner was overjoyed by the news. It was too bad he would never get to meet his son.”
He nodded, pressing his lips together. “I bet you miss him very much. It must be painful to carry your baby all by yourself. I mean, I can’t imagine being separated from my husband and my two kids. It’s the saddest thing you could experience in life.”
“You have a family back home?” she looked at him, forcing a smile. “Are you close with them?”
“They’re the joy of my life. My family is the reason I’m still here, even if life turned gloomy. We always have each other’s back, no matter what.”
Odd Eye bobbed her head silently as she noticed Boil, Faven, and Hyewon infiltrating an Imperial Troop Transport, taking down the droids without a single sound, along with Thire and Stone taking on the second vehicle. Thire and Stone assisted the three of them, giving them a thumbs up.
They seem to understand the assignment. I'm impressed.
She then shifted her focus towards Aaron, who was showing her a picture of his family, which was taken in a professional studio. “Lia is my oldest child. We adopted her from a foster home when she was 2 years old. She likes makeup and fashion, and she wanted to be a stylist after she graduated from trade school.”
“That’s cool. What about your other daughter? What does she like to do?”
“Mika loves to sew dolls in her free time, especially creepy dolls. She likes them very much, even though it scares me from time-to-time.”
Odd Eye chuckled, watching Nygma pulling out a droid’s head from its sockets. “Well, it’s good she enjoyed her hobby. I would kill to make myself a doll like her too.”
“You have no idea what she’s capable of,” Aaron gleamed, as Odd Eye signalled Tarot and Draco to take on the first transport, without the officer paying attention at all. “She loves horror movies a lot. She doesn’t even flinch whenever she sees blood. It’s pretty creepy, if you ask me.”
“I see a bright future for your daughters, sir,” she praised, as she glanced at Cody stabbing a droid with a knife. “I have faith that they will thrive in the future. Say, may I know your name? You seem like an interesting person.”
“Aaron, my name is Aaron Koo,” the officer introduced himself, not knowing that Obi-Wan had slashed the enemy with a lightsaber. “What about you, miss? What is your name?”
Before Odd Eye could answer him, Aaron heard the blaster clicking behind him, causing him to turn around with his hands up. “Surrender, Imperial scum,” ordered Cody, pointing his weapon at his face.
“Take it easy, Codes,” Odd Eye stood up, holding out her hands. “He doesn’t mean any harm. He’s only doing his job, that’s all.”
“You heard the lady, trooper,” Aaron gestured towards Cody. “Drop your weapons. No one is getting hurt here.”
Reluctantly, Cody lowered his blaster as Obi-Wan and Mina approached them, putting down their weapons. “You’ll be safe with us, officer,” reassured Obi-Wan, before turning to Odd Eye. “You did a splendid job, commander. Well done.”
Aaron froze as he stared at Odd Eye. “You were going to kill me? After what I’ve done for you?”
“I’m sorry, Aaron, but you have a good heart, and I didn’t want to hurt you at all.”
“Please don’t do this,” he begged, dropping to his knees. “I still haven’t told you about my husband. I don’t want to die without saying goodbye to him. I love him so much. You would understand, miss, considering you’ve lost your partner without any closure.”
He’s right, thought Odd Eye.
“You’ll be safe with us, officer,” the Jedi kneeled towards him. “You have my words. We won’t let anything happen to you and your family.”
Aaron could only stand up with his arms behind his head as he saw Thire stepped out of the transport. “We have successfully taken over all the vehicles, general,” the Coruscant guard reported. “Permission we proceed with our next plan?”
“Granted, commander,” Obi-Wan approved. “Let General Gomez and General Almarez-Guttierez our status report.”
“Sir, yes, sir.”

hi can we get some zaley friendship headcanons whenever you're free? ☺️
im not the best at headcanons just bc of the way my brain functions but im gonna do my best for you, sunny my friend. let’s go zay and riley let’s go!
thrift shop buddies!! one of the most common ways that they hang out is definitely going thrifting. considering they arguably have the two most eclectic wardrobes on the show, this makes sense. esp i fully believe they’re the perfect people to thrift shop with where they encourage each other to try on everything, even if it seems outlandish (and sometimes even more in those moments). that’s the only way to really get some good finds! and i feel like, beyond S1, when they wear items for performances in the show that are clearly unique / seem thrifted, it’s more than 50% likely the other helped them pick it out at some point
on this note, i think that they both have really good senses of what looks good on the other bc they spend this time together, probably better than anyone else (yes, including their significant others. not that that’s hard, since both of their significant others have notoriously bland fashion). like even when theyre not out together i can totally imagine them seeing something and being like “oh this is so riley / zay” and getting it for each other. they know each other’s sizes and have like an ongoing swap credit system gfJSKHJDLFH
riley and zay usually run performance by the other person before they perform them for the class / at an audition. like they find a specific time (usually during breakout sessions during class) to get in front of the other person and run them through their concept + do a run-through for them. they just really appreciate the other’s perspective, especially since they tend to complement each other -- zay is able to identify places where riley could heighten things or add some flair or just like... assert her talent more lmao, whereas riley helps zay pull back on some of his more overwhelming instincts when necessary or find the moments to truly lean in emotionally rather than blowing us out of the water the whole time
if we could actually Watch the show, i guarantee 9/10 times when riley or zay is performing, we would cut to the other enjoying the performance. like theyre always bobbing their head along and truly feelin the other’s performances. excellent vibes luv!
i also think they harmonize well with each other, which is why its kind of a shame they dont do more performances together within the context of assignments (as for why, couldn’t tell you... it might just be a weird psychological thing of like i have These people i perform with when it matters and these who are just for fun... like maybe zay and riley tend to see each other as easygoing comfortable duet partners and thats why they try not to overdo putting pressure on it). but yeah they absolutely have days where they just hang out in one of the rehearsal studios and play around on the piano and try to find ways to harmonize on their favorite songs. this is some of the best singing riley ever does, bc its so low stakes and fun
i also think that honestly, zay really helps strengthen riley’s vocals over the time they’re friends -- especially early on. riley is someone with good raw talent but she’s never thought about honing it seriously prior to joining aaa, whereas zay has been on a career mindset since he was little. so he is good at teaching her like small technique things or helping her expand her range and she really values that esp bc hes so selfless about giving it, but it doesnt come off naggy or unnecessary like maya’s advice often does
sometimes it can be hard for them to find songs they both wanna sing though bc their music taste is so different. i think they have like three small categories where their favorites overlap -- select big names (sza, chloe x halle), jazz / old-time crooners (frank sinatra, nina simone, and the like), and select musical theater. but i think this is mainly on zay, bc he’s much more picky about music than riley who will give anything a listen without much nudging. as we know zay likes to pick on his friends’ music taste (like charlie and harry styles / 1d) and i don’t think riley would escape this affectionate teasing. they exchange song recs and riley gives him like her usual piano ballad-y sara bareilles tswift rachael yamagata energy and shes like oh yes, another piano ballad and hes like STOP!!! JUST LISTEEEENNNN GFSJKLHJFDSKLHKDLFH
that said though, they’re definitely go-to friends when it comes to like checking out a new local artist or coffeeshop open mic nights. this is probably a typical zay / riley / yindra outing
zay doesn’t spend a ton of time watching tv bc “he has better things to do with his time,” but riley and zay are definitely the type to watch a show together. like not always Together, but they’ll try to keep up with each other so that they can talk about it (and riley has to try really hard not to keep binging and get way ahead of zay). theyre good at this bc they can have really intense and opinionated conversations about it but in a way where its like safe and neither of them feel like theyre actually being judged / are stupid if they disagree (something thats not common for riley, and zay usually is trying to discuss media with super strong personalities who aren’t great at Debating).
in general, though, they tend to agree on favorite characters / relationships. for example, they both hate rachel berry -- which always gets maya and farkle extremely heated if they’re around. i can only imagine why...
they’re also definitely safe-space vent people for each other. they don’t use the privilege all that often bc i think both of them try to like keep their cool and not get hung up about things, but if they really just have to pop off about something they know they can go to the other person and they’ll actually Listen and keep it under wraps rather than either spilling it to everyone else and/or immediately trying to problem solve rather than just listening to the Emotions. and it’s helpful bc for the most part, their friends don’t actually really overlap that much, so they don’t really like harbor the emotions the other person unloads on them or let it affect their dynamics with other people? like riley can talk about dasher and zay can talk about yingel without it having any ripple consequences bc theyre different circles.
for example, i can totally see riley talking to zay about how she feels like -- at first -- asher doesn’t really like her and won’t really let her in and like he doesn’t want her to join the friend group (even tho that isn’t really true). like she can’t talk to dylan about it bc she’s not going to put him in that position and she’s not foolish enough to think that’s a good idea, she can’t talk to lucas about it bc he like doesn’t get stuff like that gFJKHGLFJSDLH and also he has such a set impression of asher it would be hard for him to understand it from her perspective. zay has none of that, so hes a good person to listen to her nerves about it.
the only times this gets kind of complicated / janky is in the midst of zay x charlie stuff where riley is kind of unintentionally (or, sometimes, intentionally) in the middle. like, zay trusts her not to go telling charlie what he says about him, but he knows they’re good friends too, and its an awkward position to put her in. but still, i think when zay is really hurt or frustrated he’ll snap sometimes and just vent out all his anger about charlie to riley in one foul swoop, and she’ll just absorb it like a sponge without judgment and then not bring it up again. but you can also see little ways where this puts pressure on their friendship, like how when he was drunk in 304 zay expressed resentment towards the fact that riley also talks to charlie and sometimes he feels like she puts him first, even though that isn’t true. it’s just..... a very very complicated (and interesting, if emotional) situation with that trio.
that being said, when things are Good, i think that zay feels comfortable talking about his significant others (including charlie) with riley. he doesn’t really get too Detailed about anything personal or anything, but they definitely discussed charlie in s2 in the small window of time where riley knew and zc wasn’t actively imploding LMAO. on the flip side, riley doesn’t really talk to zay about her relationships, but only bc her relationship is lucas GJFSKLJHLKDJHFLDSH. like anyone else she’d be like okay sure this is fine but she knows zay finds lucas annoying 65% of the time and talking about him in a romantic context grosses him out so she respects that LMAOOOO. hysterical
in general, if they’re gonna hang out, they usually go to either a local coffee shop they like (like svorskis) or each other’s houses. its kind of a relief to have a person they can just take anywhere and have around their parents with no trouble at all, considering both of them are used to having a boyfriend who cant be seen in their house (for different reasons). and theyre comfortable enough that like i think when they hang out at their houses, they just spread out in the living area of both bc theyre not hiding anything, its like very lowkey and comfortable
that being said, riley doesnt spend much time in zay’s usual studio at school. most people don’t, its a place zay now likes to be alone (and it feels weird with someone else being there who isnt charlie)
as for how they come off to their families, the babineauxs love riley. jada has met her a couple of times and thinks she’s super sweet + zay could afford to learn a thing or two from her like how to chill the fuck out (cue zay going shut the fuck up). donna is excited that zay has another friend who isn’t batshit intense about stuff like maya / farkle, she figures yindra has the diva best friend role covered and zay needs more friends like nigel and riley to ground him. she’s right about this.
cory likes zay, but he also does have some prejudices from the teaching perspective about how zay doesn’t pay attention in class half the time and blows off his assignments -- but this isn’t partially because cory isn’t a great teacher and his assignments suck. so the feeling is mutual, tho zay gets along better with cory in a neutral, polite sense than say, asher and dylan, where it’s like guerilla psychological warfare. topanga has no opinion about zay bc riley doesn’t introduce her friends to her (wisely).
they’re still very common lunch buddies. essentially when riley isn’t eating with the techies (which is only when lucas is there usually) or bothering lucas in the booth once a week, she’s with zay (which usually also means nigel, yindra, and farkle, though not always)
ultimately, i think that when someone asks riley who her best friend is, her mind will always jump to zay first. not even because theyre necessarily the closest at any given time, but because he really was her first life raft at aaa and he extended that kindness to her in a moment where she was so used to being brushed aside, talked over, ridiculed -- and you don’t forget that. it stays with you. so when she thinks about her Best Friend, speed round answer, he will always come to mind first. i think she greatly admires his skillful balance of confidence and compassion, his sarcastic sense of humor, the way he gets so passionate about dance and music and how these elements come together, and his inarguable kindness that is at his core and so fundamental to everything he does (even when his more known reputation is a bit more barbed and witty).
on the flip side, i think riley came into zay’s life at the exact moment he needed it. we know he felt isolated in s1, and even though i think he thinks of nigel and yindra as his first-to-mind best friends, riley was a breath of fresh air who allowed him to be himself with someone who wasnt going to judge him on past decisions or impressions. just like he gave her the chance to define herself in his eyes with his extension of company on that first day, she does the same for him by not making assumptions about him and learning who he is on their terms. i think she’s also just a really great, measured system of support -- she’s not busting his balls or keeping him in check like yindra and nigel do (except when its really needed, like 304), but she isn’t as in awe / romanticized with him like charlie. i think he appreciates that he can go to her for an honest perspective, but she’ll take the care to deliver that honesty in a gentle way. it’s like, he’s tough enough to take a hit, but sometimes its nice to know you have someone who will be kind with you even then.
that’s what is at the core of their friendship overall. kindness.

Day 1, Sept 4th
9:15 am - 6:00 (8 hours and 45 minutes, 8.45 hours total)
I arrived at the Design Edge studio where my new boss (Chris) started off by introducing me to the other members of the design team, then assigned me a desk with a Mac desktop where I’ll be doing all of my work. From there one of the other designers (Doug) guided me through where to find the daily To-Do List, how to access the team’s Dropbox and how to set up design files.
My first few assignments of the day ranged from making small edits to packaging mockups for a women’s travel bag, creating several designs for a pizza box and even solving a four-piece puzzle ring to check any default before sending it off to a client.

Annie Elizabeth & Alice Margaret Crook
Annie Elizabeth Crook was born in 1863 on London daughter of William Crook and Sarah Annie Quordisman (or Quatermane). Her father William, son of William and Sarah Crook, was baptised on October 24th 1830 and was from Eton, Berkshire, England. Her mother Sarah Annie was born around 1839.
Annie's parents married on May 25th 1829 at Upton Cum Chalvey, Buckinghamshire (about a mile from Eton). They were Anglicans.
The 1871 census the family is listed living in Upper Rathbone Place, Marylebone, London. No number is given on the census sheet. William Crook, pianoforte finisher, aged 40 from Eton was married to Annie Crook, aged 32, from Berwick on Tweed(Northumberland). They had three daughters, Annie E, aged 8 and born in London; and Alice and Caroline aged 7 months and born in London.
By 1881 the family had moved to No 2 Rose Street, London, and their details are given as follows: the head of the family was William Crook, still working as a pianoforte finisher, aged 50 and born in Eton. His wife is Sarah A. Crook, aged 42 and from Scotland. Two daughters were living with them: Annie, who was 18 and working as a general domestic servant, and Alice, who was 12. Catherine is not listed so between 1871 and 1881 she probably died.
On the 18th April 1885 Annie had a daughter, Alice Margaret, who was born at St Marylebone Workhouse, London, but there is no information about who was her father. She was baptised as an Anglican. They lived at No. 9 Pitt Street, Tottenham Court Road.
Sadly, on 22nd January 1889 Annie and her daughter Alice were brought to the Endell Street Workhouse [where they were recorded as 'destitute'] by PC 453D.
By 1891 the family had moved back to Upper Rathbone Place, but this time we have a number, No 16. William Crook was 60 and still working as a pianoforte finisher. His wife Sarah, aged 50, is listed working as a charwoman from Berwick, Scotland. Their 27th year-old daughter Annie, jam maker, is living with them, as well as her daughter Alice Margaret, aged 5.
Annie’s father William Crook would die that year (1891), according to Begg, Fido and Skinner's book The Complete Jack the Ripper A – Z. Annie's mother Sarah died on 1916.
Annie stayed at various workhouses later in her life, dying eventually in the Lunacy Ward of Fulham Road Workhouse on February 23rd 1920, aged 58. She suffered recurrent epilepsy.
Alice Margaret Crook married William Gorman on 14th July 1918, at St Aloysius Chapel in At Pancrass, and they had 5 children (all born between 1921 and 1927), including Joseph “Hobo” William Charles Gorman (22nd October 1925 - January 2003). Alice died aged 65 in 1950, William died the following year.
Joseph Gorman, Walter Sickert and Stephen Knight
In 1973 the BBC launched a television series, Jack the Ripper, which investigated the Whitechapel murders. The sixth and final programme included a testimony by Joseph Gorman, who called himself Joseph Sickert and claimed to be the illegitimate son of noted painter Walter Sickert. Gorman claimed that Sickert had told him a story that implicated not only the royal family but also a host of other famous people in the murders. According to Gorman, sir William Gull committed the murders with the help of accomplices.
Gorman said that his Catholic grandmother (Annie Elizabeth) had secretly married prince Albert Victor, and that his mother Alice Margaret, was the legitimate daughter of Albert Victor and the rightful heir to the throne. He claimed that the Ripper murders were staged as part of a conspiracy to hush up any potential scandal by murdering anyone who knew of the birth. In the original television series, the story is depicted as the belief of Gorman but not of the detectives. Captivated by Gorman's story, journalist Stephen Knight decided to investigate the claims further, and eventually published his research as the book Jack the Ripper: The Final Solution in 1976.
Gorman said that Albert Victor's mother, Princess Alexandra, introduced Walter Sickert to her son in the hope that Sickert would teach Albert Victor about art. Gorman claimed that Albert Victor met one of Sickert's models, Annie Elizabeth Crook, a Catholic shop girl, at Sickert's studio at 15 Cleveland Street. They had an affair and married in a secret ceremony with Sickert and Annie's friend, Mary Jane Kelly, acting as witnesses. Gorman alleged that Albert Victor and Annie's daughter, Alice Margaret Crook, was born on 18 April 1885, and that Albert Victor settled Annie and Alice into an apartment in Cleveland Street. According to Gorman, in April 1888 the Queen Victoria and the British Prime Minister Lord Salisbury discovered Albert Victor's secret. Gorman accused Salisbury of ordering a raid on the apartment because he was afraid that public knowledge of a potential Catholic heir to the throne would result in a revolution. Gorman claimed that Albert Victor was placed in the custody of his family, while Annie was placed in the custody of Sir William Gull, who certified her insane; she spent the next 30 years drifting in and out of institutions before dying in 1920.
Meanwhile, Gorman alleged, Kelly was looking after the daughter, Alice, both during and after the raid. Gorman asserted that at first Kelly was content to hide the child, but then she, along with her friends Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman and Elizabeth Stride, decided to blackmail the government. Gorman accused Salisbury of conspiring with his fellow freemasons, including senior policemen in the London Metropolitan Police, to stop the scandal by staging the murders of the women. Gorman said Salisbury assigned the task to Gull, who lured the four women into a carriage individually where Gull murdered them with the assistance of coachman John Netley and Sir Robert Anderson, Assistant Commissioner of Scotland Yard. Gorman claimed a fifth victim, Catherine Eddowes, was killed accidentally in a case of mistaken identity because she used the alias Mary Ann Kelly and was confused with Mary Jane Kelly. Gorman alleged that Netley tried to kill the young Alice twice but after the second unsuccessful attempt several witnesses chased Netley, who threw himself into the Thames and drowned. Gorman completed the story by saying that Alice lived well into old age, later becoming Walter Sickert's mistress, and that Alice and Walter Sickert were his parents.
Knight explained that at first he did not believe Gorman's sensational story, which seemed "arrant, if entertaining, nonsense", but was so entranced by it that he had to investigate further. In describing the progress of his investigation, Knight revealed a series of coincidences: according to him, the murders ended with the death of Mary Kelly; a woman named "Elizabeth Cook", who Knight claimed could be Annie Elizabeth Crook misspelt, did live at 6 Cleveland Street; Annie Crook was institutionalised; rumours of the time link Prince Albert Victor to a scandal in Cleveland Street; Gull was fond of grapes, and one of the victims may have been eating some at the time of her death; Gull matched the description of an unnamed physician accused by clairvoyant Robert James Lees, who claimed to have identified the Ripper by using psychic powers. Eventually, as the circumstantial coincidences build up, Knight became convinced that Gorman's story was true. The lack of tangible evidence, he claimed, was due to a government cover-up and deliberate misdirection of the police investigation.
There are many facts that contradict Knight's theory (as listed here) and his main source, Joseph Gorman, later retracted the story and admitted to the press that it was a hoax.
Historian and author Paul Begg recalls having met Ellen May Lackner (1909 – 2005), Joseph Gorman's cousin, in 1992, and published in Jack the Ripper: The Facts that she ”... Confirmed that elements of Gorman’s story circulated within the family during his infancy; the story, or elements of it, where not his invention. She recalled that wealthy people sometimes visited the house, and she thought there was a connection with the birth of Alice Margaret, who she thought she was the illegitimate daughter of Walter Sickert, not Prince Albert Victor, and although she vaguely remembered some mysterious and frightening connection with Jack the Ripper, she thought it was an invention to deter too much enquiry into Alice”.
Other authors have written about the subject (either the Royal Conspiracy or the Freemasonry Conspiracy, or both, or even mixed or variations of the story – different suspects, mothers of Prince Albert Victor's child, etc.), such as Donald McCormick (1959, The Identity of Jack the Ripper), Thomas E. A. Stowell (1970, "Jack the Ripper – A Solution?" in the November issue of The Criminologist), Elwyn Jones and John Lloyd (1975, The Ripper File, based in the 1973 BBC series 'Jack The Ripper'), Jean Overton-Fuller (1990, Sickert and the Ripper Crimes), Melvyn Fairclough (1991, The Ripper and the Royals), Andy Parlour, Sue Parlour and Kevin O'Donnell (1997, The Jack the Ripper Whitechapel Murders) and Patricia Cornwell (2002, Portrait of a Killer). Although all of them are marketed as non-fiction books, they are dismissed almost universally as derivative fantasies and as containing non reliable sources.
Many novels and fiction books (Alan Moore’s and Eddie Campbell’s From Hell; Robin Paige’s Death at Whitechapel; Anne Perry's The Whitechapel Conspiracy, to name a few); films and TV series (A Study in Terror, Murder by Decree, Jack The Ripper 1988 TV series, The Ripper 1997 TV film, From Hell...); and even websites and blogs (Felicity Lowde Research) are based, with variation, with this theory.

Zack Seckler | Above
June 27 – August 9, 2019
Opening Reception: Thursday, June 27, 2019 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
ClampArt is pleased to announce “Zack Seckler | Above”—a mid-career retrospective of work surveying three series of aerial photography from Iceland, Botswana, and South Africa.
In his mission to capture stunning aerial views of land, sea, and wildlife, Zack Seckler takes to the skies in tiny, single-propeller, light-sport aircrafts. His abstract photographs offer an extraordinary perspective of some of the planet’s most remote locations. Seckler uses the maneuverability of the small planes to his greatest advantage, instructing his pilots to fly precisely to locations which catch his interest.
The artist describes the experience and the images he endeavors to capture: “From elevations between 50 and 500 feet, the landscape hovers on the line between things looking very real and recognizable and being more abstract. That’s what really draws me in—the line between reality and abstraction.” Deliberately avoiding the horizon and often shooting from the plane window at an angle perpendicular to the ground adds to the disorientation of the curious, two-dimensional images.
He continues: “Being in that airspace, you’re seeing the world from a perspective that’s largely hidden from the human eye. The view simplifies the landscape in some ways while also revealing complexities. It’s our world but it’s also a new world. The experience is very powerful and I hope some of that feeling comes through in the photographs.”
After graduating from college in 2003, Seckler began working as a photojournalist, but by 2008, he had acquired a taste for a conceptual approach to the medium requiring unique problem-solving, and he dove into commercial and personal art projects. The first series, “Botswana,” was photographed the following year in 2009 when he was in the country for an assignment and asked his client for suggestions of what to do with his last few free days. Soon Seckler was introduced to a pilot who took him on an ultra-light flight over the salt flats. “It’s just me and the pilot sitting right next to each other, knees practically touching,” says Seckler. “There are no real doors, no windows—there’s only a windshield, propeller, and wings.” Botswana, situated in the southern part of the African continent, is the home to a wide range of animals, including zebras, wildebeests, and African buffalo, all of which appear prominently in the artist’s images from this body of work.
It was not until November 2015, six years later, that the artist would get back into the air to shoot: “[W]ith winter fast closing in, photographer Zack Seckler strapped himself into an ultra-light aircraft and headed off into squally skies over southern Iceland. He returned with incredible images that show a different view of the wild Nordic landscapes. . . Away from the volcanoes and sheer-walled glaciers that have come to symbolize Iceland, Seckler’s aerial shots reveal an ethereal, textured world where ice-blue meltwaters swirl into crystalline seas populated by seals, sea lions and seabirds.” (Barry Neild, CNN)
Then, in 2016, Seckler traveled to South Africa to shoot the country’s enormous natural diversity where, in one week, he and his pilot covered nearly 2000 miles in 45 hours of flight. In his most stylistically varied series to date, the artist captured images of candy-colored landscapes populated by dolphins, sea turtles, giraffes, springbok, flamingos, giant herons, and even occasionally humans.
Zack Seckler was born in Boston. He studied psychology at Syracuse University, and later, traveling solo with a point-and-shoot camera in northern India, his mind opened to the visual world. Upon returning to Syracuse, he took coursework in photography at the renowned Newhouse School. With an internship in a Hong Kong photo studio and editorial work in New York City, he developed his vision for image-making.
